Vying for top spot
Posted Friday, December 16, 2011 3:14 PM

Four University of Manitoba students and a professor will be wrestling for a spot in the 2012 Olympics - literally.

Students Youcef Soufi, James Eyde-Rowne, Marc Lavallee and Wilson Le, along with professor Frank Deer, Faculty of Education, aare all part of the university's wrestling club.

They are taking part in 2010 London Olympic trials through December 19.

"Wrestling is a super sport," said Soufi, "and anyone can do it. There is no template wrestler. Anyone can have success with wrestling."

The Bison Recreation Services Student Club Program has provided an outlet for pursuing the wrestler’s dreams of vying for a spot on the Olympic team.

"We are very excited about this opportunity," said Soufi. "The U of M Recreation Services offers everything we need for training."

The trials are being held at the University of Winnipeg.
