The Canadian National Women’s Soccer team earned their first-ever gold medal at a Pan American Games after securing a 1-1 (4-3 victory on penalty kicks) against Brazil in the finals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Former Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer player and current Bison women’s soccer assistant coach Desiree Scott was on the pitch for the full 120 minutes in the Games final.
Scott, 24, started four of five games (played in all five) and started both of the playoff matches at the 2011 Pan American Games. During the Games from October 18-27, Canada played group games against Costa Rica (W 3-1), Argentina (W 1-0) and Brazil (D 0-0) and then faced Columbia (W 2-1) in the semi-finals before the finals versus Brazil.
This has been an extremely busy season for Scott as she has now made 31 national appearances over her career and was also part of Team Canada at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the summer plus joined the Bison women’ soccer program as assistant coach for the 2011 campaign.
