Lexi-Comp: a great drug database gets even better
Posted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 3:21 PM

The library has recently added Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference to its Lexi-Comp ONLINE subscription.

Lexi-Comp, Inc., a provider of clinical reference information for health care professionals, has partnered with RPS Publishing to incorporate the highly-regarded international pharmacology data found in Martindale. The partnership provides medical professionals treating diverse patient populations with one robust resource that includes US, Canadian and international drug information.

Martindale content is presented in Lexi-Comp's clear, concise style, adding international drug information in a seamless, complementary format.

Martindale Facts

  • Information on 6,700 drugs and other substances of interest in medicine
  • 180,000 proprietary preparations from 40 countries and regions (including Canada)
  • Includes chemical/molecular drug structures
  • Verified contact information on 15,000 manufacturers
  • Written by Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain staff
  • Content updated regularly

With this addition, you can now search three continuously updated independent reference texts (Lexi, AHFS DI and Martindale) in one search

In addition to general drug information, Lexi-Comp Online also has several specialized resources available as separate tabs under the search box.

  • Lexi-Interact is a very useful drug interaction program that is good for cytochrome P450 interactions and additive side effects, which other drug interaction resources do not cover as comprehensively.
  • I.V. Compatibility allows you to search the King Guide to Parenteral Admixtures online database.
  • Patient information handouts are available under Patient Care and toxicology information is available under Lexi-Tox.

Lexi-Comp ONLINE is available in the Pharmacy Toolkit on the library website (under Quick Reference). You will need your library card ID and PIN to access this licensed resource.
