| Bisons Macaulay and Schappert selected as 2011-12 CIS Men's Hockey Second Team All-Canadian | | Posted Thursday, March 22, 2012 7:50 AM |
| The 2011-12 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) men’s hockey All-Canadian teams and season honours were announced on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey program had two players earn All-Canadian status.
Bisons Blair Macaulay was selected as 2011-12 CIS Second Team All-Canadian at the forward position while Jeremy Schappert was named as 2011-12 CIS Second Team All-Canadian at the defenceman position. Macaulay was also a Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy finalist for the 2011-12 CIS Player of the Year (won by Andrew Clark of Acadia) and Schappert was a 2011-12 CIS Defenceman of the Year finalist (won by Marc-André Dorion of McGill).
Macaulay, 23, earns his first CIS honour in his third season at Manitoba. The 5’11, 185 lbs. forward had an amazing season as he was also named 2011-12 Canada West Most Valuable Player and 2011-12 Canada West First Team All-Star. The Winnipeg native was the leading goal scorer in the entire CIS with 23. The third year veteran tied his career-high in points as Macaulay finished third in Canada West scoring (T-19th in CIS) with 33 points while playing all 28 conference regular season games. In addition, he was first in the CIS and Canada West in game-winning goals with five, fourth in conference power play goals with seven, tied for third in plus/minus rating at +20, second in conference shots (fourth in CIS) with 120 and also had an eight game point streak from Nov. 19-Jan. 20 when he scored 13 points and one shorthanded goal.
Schappert, 23, earned his first CIS All-Canadian honour in his second year with the Bisons. The 6’0, 195 lbs. defenceman was also selected as 2011-12 Canada West Outstanding Defenceman and 2011-12 Canada West First Team All-Star. The Winnipeg native was first in conference defenceman scoring (ninth in CIS) with 23 points in 28 conference regular season games. His six goals and 17 assists were both totals that tied for first for the most among Canada West defenceman (T-10th in assists and T-14th in goals among CIS defenceman) this season. In addition, he was tenth (fifth for conference defenceman) overall in Canada West with a plus/minus rating of +15 and second among all conference players in power play assists with 12 while posting 20 penalty minutes.
“Both players had award-winning seasons and we congratulate them on their recognition that reflected the success of the Bison Hockey program during the 2011-12 campaign,” said Bison men’s hockey head coach Mike Sirant. |
