Dixon also earned Canada West and Smitty’s Bison Sports honour

From the first week of the football season, fourth year kicker Scott Dixon was selected as CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) Special Teams Football Athlete of the Week. Also, Dixon was named to Canada West Special Teams Football honour and selected Smitty’s Bison Sports Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending August 31/08.

Bisons kicker Scott Dixon started this season in the same fashion as last season. He was the main scorer in the 25-12 home victory over the Regina Rams on Saturday, August 30 with perfect accuracy on field goals. The defending Vanier Cup champion Manitoba Bisons improved their record to 1-0 to open the 2008 season.
Dixon equaled his career high with six field goals in a game (third time he has accomplished this feat) and was one shy of the conference all-time record for most FG’s in a game: Saskatchewan’s Matt Kellett (7 vs. Alberta in 1996).

In the game, Dixon went a perfect six for six in field goal attempts despite a hard and difficult 30km/h wind at University Stadium (U of Manitoba campus). Dixon hit his first field goal in the first quarter and continued to put the ball through the uprights on his next five attempts. The field goals ranged from a 15 yarder to the farthest of 45 yards in his perfect game (15, 32, 36, 36. 37 and 45). He also notched one convert and blasted one kickoff of 67 yards. Dixon accumulated 19 of Manitoba’s 25 points in their first regular season match of 2008.
