2009 Hnatyshyn Award
Posted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 2:21 PM
Congratulations to Bachelor of Jazz Studies student Luke Sellick, who was recently selected to receive the 2009 Hnatyshyn Foundation, Oscar Peterson Grant for Jazz Performance. The Hnatyshyn Foundation awards eight grants across Canada, as part of their Developing Artists Grants. Performing arts disciplines include classical ballet, contemporary dance, acting (both English and French theatre), classical music (in piano and orchestral instrument), jazz performance (instrumental or vocal), and in classical vocal performance. Each grant totals $10,000.00 and must be used for the continuation of full time studies in the student's chosen program.

Luke is going into his second year of the B.Jazz program in upright bass performance. Luke has been active in the local Winnipeg jazz scene performing with other jazz students in independent groups.

It should be noted that this is the second consecutive year that one of our students has received this prestigious award. Samantha Chrol, saxophonist, was last year's recipient in the jazz category.

These accomplishments speak to the quality of our jazz program, which has grown significantly in the past few years.
