Kliment and Anderson named Smitty's Bison Sports Athletes of the Week

Michelle Kliment (Soccer) and Rory Anderson (Football) have been named the Smitty's Bison Sports Athletes of the Week for the week ending August 30/09.

Michelle Kliment led by leadership (she is also assistant captain) and played solidly during the first three games of the 209 season for the Bison women’s soccer team. Kliment was strong at the Bisons posted three wins during the pre-season non conference tournament at Regina during the August 28-30 weekend.

Manitoba did not allow a game in 270 minutes of play as they won 2-0 over club team WCP Cosmos, 2-0 over club team Prairie Canucks and 1-0 over the University of Regina. Kliment was the strongest player during all three games and stopped offensive attacks throughout the weekend.


The Herd completes training camp and begins the 2009 season on the road with two games. They travel to play the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m. CT and then travel to play the Calgary Dinos on Sunday, September 13 at 1 p.m. CT. The first home match is against the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, September 19 (Homecoming Day) starting at an early time of 10 a.m. All home games are played at University Stadium.

Despite the Bison Football team suffering their first loss in regular conference season play, receiver Rory Anderson had a solid game against the Regina Rams on the road on Friday, September 4.
 
The fifth year wide receiver was the top Bison receiver with three catches for 45 yards (with his longest at 24 yards) and one touchdown.

In the first game of the 2009 season, Anderson scored the lone TD for the Bisons on a 24 yard grab in the fourth quarter and had catches that resulted in two first downs.
 
 
The Bisons (0-1) now travel to play the Simon Fraser Clan (1-0) on Friday, September 11 at 9 p.m. CT. Game is available on live radio broadcast on 101.5 FM (UMFM) or at: umfm.com
