Women's hockey student-athlete, Addie Miles and men's hockey student-athlete, Myles Rumsey have been named the Smitty's Bison Sports Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 22/12.

Captain Addie Miles, playing in her new position on the blueline, was a big contributor to the Bison women’s hockey team earning three of four points on the road against No. 8 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies during the Jan. 20-22 weekend.

The converted defenceman scored four points (two goals and a two assists), six shots and a second star selection.

On Friday, Jan. 20, the fifth year forward/defenceman had two assists and two shots in a tough 3-2 overtime loss. The next night, Miles registered another multi-point game with one goal, one assist with four shots and named second star in a 4-3 (SO) road victory over the Huskies.

Miles is tied for 11th in Canada West scoring with 15 points (four goals and 11 assists) in 18 conference games so far this season.

This is the second time that Miles has been named Smitty’s Bison Sports female athlete of the week in the 2011-12 season (December 4).

Manitoba (10-5-3) has a crucial home weekend series against the Lethbridge Pronghorns (11-7-2) at Max Bell Arena on January 27-28. Puck drop both nights is 7 p.m. CT.

Myles Rumsey was strong on the blueline as he dominated with huge hits, blocking shots plus shutting down the top line in Canada West and adding scoring during the No. 8 ranked Bison men’s hockey team home sweep of then No. 3 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies on Jan. 20-22 weekend.

Rumsey notched one assist and a +1 plus/minus rating with two shots but was just as impressive with a strong defensive effort not shown on the scoresheet.

After a 4-2 win on Friday, Jan. 20 where Rumsey was strong on defence, the fourth year blueliner added an assist, two shots and a +1 in a 3-1home win on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Rumsey now has eight points (two goals and six assists) in 20 conference games so far this season.

#8 Manitoba (14-4-2) will travel to play the Lethbridge Pronghorns (5-14-3) on January 27-28 weekend. Game time for both nights is 8 p.m. CT.
