| Come home to the U of M! | | Posted Tuesday, September 11, 2012 9:00 AM |
| From Wednesday, September 12, to Sunday, September 16, 2012, the University of Manitoba will host thousands of classmates who will gather to reminisce and salute the memories and good times of their student years. And, as the annual Homecoming celebration continues to grow, so too does the company it celebrates. There have been more than 193,000 graduates of the University of Manitoba since 1877, and there are nearly 130,000 known living alumni. Of these, almost 85,000 are known to still live in Manitoba, while about 64,000 live in Winnipeg. Homecoming is geared towards this audience, but it is also an excellent opportunity for the greater community to take in the celebration and learn more about the exciting things happening at the University of Manitoba. “We believe Homecoming 2012 offers something for everyone, and we invite the community to join us," says Jana Thorsteinson, acting director of alumni relations. Planned activities include: campus tours; a gala concert; celebrations of our Indigenous community; the Bison football game--bring the kids!; complimentary workouts in the gyms at both campuses for alumni; receptions; and luncheons in most faculties. In total, more than 10,000 alumni and friends are expected to take in activities on both campuses and around the city, including dozens of class reunions dating back as far as 1952 and representing faculties and schools such as Medicine, Dental Hygiene, Medical Rehabilitation, Law, Architecture and Engineering. Details on Homecoming 2012 activities can be found at the Homecoming 2012 website: umanitoba.ca/homecoming For more information, please contact Alumni Relations at: 204-474-9946 or toll-free, 1-800-668-4908 A few highlights of Homecoming 2012: Wednesday, September 12, 2012 Indigenous Achievement Visionary Conversations Thursday, September 13, 2012 Homecoming Gala Concert School of Art Exhibition/ Opening Reception Friday, September 14, 2012 Fort Garry Campus Tours Agricultural and Food Sciences Open House at Bruce D.
