Bison women's soccer team recruits Kaylan Strang, Selina Speranza, Daniella Scerbo and Martie Arran for the upcoming 2012 season
All players are from Manitoba programs and have Manitoba provincial team experience

The Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer team starts a new era in their eighth season in CIS action as new head coach Hadyn Sloane-Seale is pleased to announce the commitment of midfielder Kaylan Strang, midfielder/striker Selina Speranza, striker Daniella Scerbo and goalkeeper Martie Arran for the upcoming 2012 season.

Strang, 18, has played for Manitoba provincial team and won provincial championship at the club level. The 5’7” midfielder played with Bonivital Flames U18 team in 2011 and in 2010, was named MVP of the Provincial Finals game when the Flames won the U16 Provincial Championship. The Winnipeg native was also selected for the U16 Manitoba provincial soccer team in 2010 plus member of NTC (National Training Centre) program based in Edmonton during 2010-11 and worked with the Manitoba Soccer Association’s soccer academy at Glenlawn Collegiate that started in 2010. In addition, she has been recognized with High School Academic Honours Role from 2008-12.

"We are extremely excited to have signed Kaylan," said Sloane-Seale. "She is an exceptional player who had her choice to go different directions. We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact she will have on the Bison program."

Speranza, 18, was a top goal scorer in the 2010-11 season. The 5’3” midfielder/striker scored 44 goals in 16 regular season games (led the league by 23 goals) while playing in the Canlan Ice Sports High School Indoor Soccer League for Westwood Collegiate. The Winnipeg native was selected for the Manitoba Provincial U16 team in 2009, but stayed with Chico's School of Soccer Excellence (CSSE) where she has played from 2008-12. She scored six goals (tied for ninth in league) in six games in 2011-12 Winnipeg Women’s Indoor Soccer League and selected Second Team Tournament All-Star at 2011 Bemidji State University Soccer Spring Invitational. Speranza made Honour Role from 2009-11.

“Selina is a very pacey attacking player who has a good eye for goal. She is a player that should contribute right of the bat,” said Sloane-Seale.

Scerbo, 17, was selected St. John's-Ravenscourt (SJR) School Female Athlete of the Year for the 2011-12 season. The 5’7” striker was captain of the SJR varsity soccer team for 2011-12, team MVP of varsity indoor soccer team in 2011 and earned the Ray Grynol Ward (most valuable girl) in varsity soccer in 2010. The Winnipeg native has also played with the Manitoba provincial soccer team from 2006-10; scored nine goals (fifth in league) in seven games in 2011-12 Winnipeg Women’s Indoor Soccer League and earned U of Manitoba entrance scholarship scholarship after being on Honour Role from Grade 7-12.

“I am very happy to have Daniella on board with the Bisons. She is a physically and technically talented player that we expect great things from her in the future,” said Sloane-Seale.

Arran, 18, won two team awards with the Winnipeg South End United (WSEU) soccer club in the 2011-12 season. The 5’10” goalkeeper was named Female Athlete of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year with WSEU in 2011-12. The La Salle, MB native was part of the Manitoba provincial soccer team from 2009-10 and with the Manitoba Blizzard club, she was named First Team Tournament All-Star at the 2011 Bemidji State University Soccer Spring Invitational when the Blizzard won the eight-team tournament. Arran made Honour Role from 2008-12 and Graduated with Distinction in 2012.

“Martie has the ideal frame of a goalkeeper,” Sloane-Seale said. “She has good size and is athletic. We are expecting her to push to become a great starting goalkeeper at this CIS level.”
