Call for donations for nursing student
Posted Wednesday, August 29, 2007 2:22 PM

A group of University of Manitoba Faculty of Nursing students are raising money for a young woman in Kenya named Persi Opar who wants to be a nurse but has no money to pay her tuition.

Persi, who is an AIDS orphan, has been admitted to a 3.5 year program in Nursing, but must pay her entrance fees and first semester tuition by Aug. 31 or she will lose the opportunity for this year. The fees for the year are approximately $3000.00.

The students have committed $1,500 towards sponsoring her and are looking for last-minute donations to ensure that Persi gets into the nursing program.

Donations are made through the office of Advancement Services at the University of Manitoba, which means that all donors will receive a tax receipt.

To make a donation, or for more information, contact the Faculty of Nursing’s international coordinator, Ruth Dean at 474-6816.
