Approximately 90 players at 2008 Bison Football Training Camp
Posted Friday, August 22, 2008 8:51 AM

Manitoba Bisons Football team: the 2007 Vanier Cup Champions

There are approximately 90 players suited up for the 2008 Manitoba Bison football team training camp. The defending CIS Vanier Cup champions will break for camp, which began on August 16, with two sessions.

For the 2008 season, Bison football will embark on a new experience for the first time in 37 years – competing as defending CIS National Champions! After rolling through another 8-0 regular season record in 2007, the Herd followed up great expectations with a record-breaking four game playoff run (winning by an average of 38 to 11 while setting a new team record with 52 points in a playoff match) which culminated with a successful 28-14 championship win over the St. Mary’s Huskies in the Vanier Cup held in Toronto on November 23, 2007.

The challenge for the upcoming campaign will be to successfully defend the Vanier Cup despite the squad losing a number of starters on both sides of the ball. On the offense, there will be four starters not returning from last season while on the defence, there will be a startling nine starters not returning because of either graduation or moving onto a CFL career.

The squad will begin the 2008 season at home against the Regina Rams on Saturday, August 30 at 1 p.m. CT held at the University Stadium.
