CCAC recognizes U of M professor
Posted Tuesday, August 12, 2008 8:46 AM
U of M physiology professor Dr. Edwin Kroeger

Physiology professor Dr. Edwin Kroeger has received The Canadian Council on Animal Care’s 2008 Harry Rowsell Award for Outstanding Service.

Kroeger is well known in the Faculty of Medicine for his promotion of Research Days via email.  His use of humour and plain speak are Ed’s nom de plum. Subject lines like Intangibles….in Science?, Free Stuff, and the every popular Everbody’s Doing It have resulted in successful Research Days over the past several years.  His dedication to this event was recognized in 2002 with an Outreach Award from the University of Manitoba.

The Harry C. Rowsell Award for Outstanding Service to the Canadian Council on Animal Care is the highest honour given to individuals who have made truly exceptional contributions to the CCAC and its programs.

This is a very impressive Award given to only two other Canadians since its start in 2003.

Kroeger shows exceptional leadership and achievement to the Canadian Council of Animal Care.

To add to his already-crowded academic portfolio, he is also a member of the Centre for Research and Treatment of Atherosclerosis and the Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Medicine.

As the council noted, Drs. Ed Kroeger and Peter Flanagan (University of Western Ontario) were nominated for their joint influential contributions in leading the CCAC through times of unmatched difficulties in the late 1990’s. They helped the CACC become the well-structured system it is today on national and international stages.

Kroeger and Flanagan will receive the award at the fall 2008 council meeting.
