Over the past two years, the WestGrid (http://www.westgrid.ca/) consortia has evolved into WestGrid 2 and now includes all of the western Canadian provinces and many new institutions including the Universities of Manitoba, Winnipeg and Brandon.
The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has evolved its funding policy for HPC, which led to the formation of Compute/Calcul Canada
(http://www.computecanada.org ; http://www.calculcanada.org), a Canada-wide initiative involving the seven regional HPC consortia. In Fall 2006, CFI committed $60 million ($150 million with matching funds) towards HPC. But, a key change at CFI is that it will no longer fund group-private HPC systems (e.g. clusters) if the local HPC consortia (e.g. WestGrid 2) is deemed able to satisfy a researcher's HPC
The WestGrid 2 Senior Planning Committee (SPC) and the User Needs Committee (UNC) have prepared a new Web-based survey to assess the high-performance computing (HPC) needs of WestGrid 2 members. This information is being gathered to make decisions on the types of hardware and software to be purchased by WestGrid 2.
Therefore, we all have a strong, vested interest in having our HPC needs represented via the User Needs Survey at:
Please complete this User Needs Survey by Tuesday, July 31. Please bring the importance of completing this survey to the attention of your colleagues and collaborators.
If you have any questions or experience any technical difficulties with the survey, please contact our HPC technical analyst:
Jon Aronsson (204) 474 6912 email@example.com
We can help you in completing the survey in whatever way(s) are necessary. Even if you are not currently a HPC user, you should also complete the survey as we arelooking for usage over a 3-5 year timeframe.
