The University of Manitoba is a special place. Brimming with energy and creativity, it would take a substantial chunk of the calendar just to meet a small portion of the interesting people that call the U of M their place of work, study or play.
Fortunately, a new web series shines a spotlight on some of those interesting people and their pursuits. Called The Campus Files, the light-hearted show goes beyond the ‘front page’ of university news and explores the charming lesser-known stories that make the University of Manitoba unique.
The Campus Files is hosted by Public Affairs communications officer and longtime member of the university, Chris Rutkowski.
In the first episode, Chris looks into the origins of Ditchball. The no-holds-barred ‘sport’ was created by Architecture students in the 1970s and has since become an annual tradition at the University of Manitoba. Chris talks to Ditchball co-founder Verne Reimer about Ditchball’s glory days and its potential inclusion as a demonstration sport in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
