Posted Thursday, July 23, 2009 10:54 AM

An organic farm field day on Wednesday, July 29 provided visitors with insights on everything from reduced tillage and grazed green manures to breeding wheat and oat varieties for organic production.

Ian and Jo-Anne Cushon of Moose Creek Organic Farm near Oxbow, SK, will be offering the field day at their farm on Wednesday, July 29 from 10 am to 4 pm. University of Manitoba plant scientist Martin Entz and others will also be on hand to discuss a variety of research trials.

Participants will explore techniques for organic crop management, through the work done both by the Cushons and by University of Manitoba staff. Other topics will include reducing tillage in organic crop production; growing your own N on an organic farm - with and without livestock; breeding high protein wheats for organic production; breeding wheat and oat varieties for organic production; and grazed green manures

There is no charge for the field day and lunch is included.
