Riley McGuire and Julia Osso explain Mendeley, a citation aid for research
exchange, at a workshop in Aracaju, Brazil. They discuss the potential of
Mendeley to facilitate the co-creation of knowledge through ongoing
conversations between members of the Brazil-Canada Knowledge Exchange research
team. Julia talks about the desktop application of Mendeley, showing how it
can be used to organize and annotate files. In addition, she shows the ability
of Mendeley to generate in-paper citations and complete bibliographies in a
variety of styles, saving a researcher time and effort. Riley expands with a
description of the online Mendeley site, or cloud. He talks about the ability of
Mendeley to store files and citations online, share citations with colleagues,
and enable discussions about various pieces of research. They believe this
software could be useful in encouraging the reciprocal and collaborative
research that is at the center of their team's goals.
