Four engineering alumni join the eureka project: Smartpark's Incubator
Posted Wednesday, July 18, 2007 2:22 PM

Design services firm QuadCom Technologies Inc. is the newest client to join the eureka project: Smartpark's Incubator on July 4, 2007.  All four principles of QuadCom, including Tom Wilson, Gary Isliefson, Bruce Chin and Norbert Wegner are alumni of the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Engineering.

With 18 to 25 years of experience in the satellite, defense, transportation and telecommunication industries all four engineers felt they had the expertise to go out and start their own company.  Previously all four were working at PMC Sierra before the company closed its Winnipeg office.

"The closing of the PMC Winnipeg office was the push we needed to start our own business. We knew we had the technical skills but weren't sure we had the business skills to ensure our company was a success", said company president, Tom Wilson. "When we discovered the eureka project we knew we could make this work. We're confident the incubator can help us avoid some of the pitfalls we'd have fallen into had we tried this on our own."

QuadCom offers high quality electronic hardware and software design and test services, including printed circuit board design and embedded software design.

The company will be targeting North American semiconductor and intellectual property companies, electronics systems companies and defense contractors which currently outsource an estimated $1 billion US in work each year.

the eureka project: Smartpark's Incubator assists start-up high tech companies with hands-on assistance in business planning, sales, marketing, and finance. Clients also benefit from networking with fellow entrepreneur's in the incubator, with Smartpark's community of innovators and with researchers at the University of Manitoba. Additionally, flexible office and lab options, IT support, IP advice and mentors are provided.
