Bison Sports logoThe Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team, pre-season ranked third in the country, is pleased to announce the team co-captains for the 2011-12 season. Left side hitter Ryan Munt and left side hitter Chris Voth are the captains for the Bison men’s volleyball team.

For both players, this will be the second time as captain with Manitoba after wearing the ‘C’ in the 2010-11 campaign.

Munt, 21, starts his fifth and final season with the Herd.
Last season, he was ninth in Canada West in digs with a 2.06 avg. (66 games/136 digs). In team stats, Munt played in 66 of 67 conference regular season games for Manitoba and he was second in digs at 137, third in kills at 137, third in assists (23) and sixth in total blocks with 30 in the 2010-11 season.

Voth, 21, enters his fourth season with the Bisons. In his third season with Manitoba, he was selected as 2010-11 Canada West Second Team All-Star. Voth earned his first conference all-star selection after also being named as 2008-09 CIS and Canada West Rookie of the Year. In the 2010-11 season, Voth was named to 2011 Summer Universiade Canadian men’s volleyball team after he was tenth in Canada West with 3.12 kills per game (67 games/209 kills), sixth in service aces with 0.22 per game (67gp/15 aces) and tenth in conference points at 3.69 per game (67gp/247 points). The Winnipeg native started and played in all 18 conference regular season games and three playoff matches plus added 111 digs, 38 overall blocks and 17 assists during the season.

Bison men’s volleyball head coach Garth Pischke, in his 31st season, commented, “Both Ryan and Chris are veterans and individually will provide great leadership for the team on court and off court during 2011-12.”

As the conference season opens for the Bisons at home against the Brandon Bobcats on October 28-29 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus), Manitoba went 9-2 during the 2011 pre-season and had wins over CIS Top 10 team Laval (three times) and conference rival Brandon.
