Bisons Dane Pischke was selected as 2011-12 CIS First Team All-Canadian at the right side position and Chris Voth was named as 2011-12 CIS Second Team All-Canadian at the left side position.
Pischke, 21, earns his first CIS honour in his fourth season at Manitoba. The 6’6”, 185 lbs. right side hitter had a dominant season as he was first in CIS and Canada West with 292 kills plus first in CIS and Canada West with 337.5 points in the 2011-12 regular season. In addition, he was tied for 12th with 164 digs and 13th in CIS hitting percentage with .295. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 conference regular season games and also accumulated 65 total blocks, 14 assists and six service aces.
Chris Voth, 21, earned his first CIS All-Canadian honour and second CIS recognition (2008-09 CIS Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team) in his fourth year at Manitoba. The 6’5”, 185 lbs. left side hitter had another great season as he finished third in CIS with 306.0 points and sixth in CIS with 253 kills in the 2011-12 regular season. In addition, he was tied for 16th in CIS with 18 service aces and 32nd in CIS hitting percentage with .251. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 conference regular season games and also accumulated 108 digs, 61 total blocks and 20 assists.
Bison men’s volleyball head coach Garth Pischke commented from the CIS Nationals, “I am proud of the two athletes as they both had outstanding season. These CIS recognition is a reflection of the team and how it has played and overall success so far this season.”
Bison volleyball notes: The Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team are the Canada West silver medallist after placing second at the 2012 Canada West Final Four at Trinity Western on the Feb. 24-25 weekend and have been seeded second at the 2012 CIS National Championship being held from March 2-4 at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. The Bisons will play the seventh seed Western Mustangs (OUA finalists) in their first match at CIS championship on Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m. CT.
