At the end of the 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Track and Field Championships at University of Manitoba’s Max Bell Fieldhouse, the Manitoba Bisons earned their first two medal of the competition with bronze in the women’s 4x200m relay and men’s 4x400m relay.

Bison track and field head coach Claude Berube stated from the Championship site, “Very excited with the finish and gaining two medals. We exceeded expectations and the building has been friendly to us when we host as we were close to Top 10 for women’s and the men’s competed hard. Overall, very pleased with the performances from our whole team.”

During the third and final day of the meet, Bison highlights included the Bison women’s 4x200m relay team improving six spots from their seed to place third (after Saskatchewan was disqualified) in a time of 1:41.59. “We gave it all we had and proud our finish against strong competition, “ stated fourth year Leah Harpelle. Lisa Wong and Kimberly-Ann Bordun ran their last race as fifth year in the 4x200 relay team and Wong picked up her first CIS medal and Bordun her second CIS medal.

The men’s 4x400m relay team blazed to a third place (won their timed final section) in a time of 3:16.57. Fifth year Zacharie Durand exclaimed, “We really left in out there. We knew what we had to do and the crowd really lifted us during the race for our best time of the season. This was Durand’s third CIS medal in his five year Manitoba career.
