Prior to the start of the CIS women’s hockey season, Team Canada women’s hockey team Under-22 selection squad has a camp which features exhibition games against a CIS-All-Star Team held at York University in Toronto. One of the players selected to the CIS All-Star team is Manitoba Bisons forward Leanne Kisil.
Kisil, 21, is one of only five Canada West players named to the 20 person CIS All-Star squad. The CIS All-Star Team will play four exhibition games against Team Canada starting with a match on Monday, August 13 and ending with a final game on Friday, August 17.
Bison women’s hockey head coach Jon Rempel stated, “Our program is very proud of Leanne's selection to the upcoming CIS All-star team that will compete in Toronto against players invited to Canada's Under 22 final selection camp. Leanne has consistently been one Canada West's best and most consistent performers in the last three years and the opportunity to showcase her talents on a National stage is well earned and much deserved.”
Kisil was a Canada West Second Team All-Star selection in 2006-07 and named CIS Most Sportsmanlike Player at the 2007 CIS Championship. The Bison captain was the team’s top scorer with 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 22 regular season games in 2006-07 and earned her first Canada West All-Star selection as she was named to the 2005-06 Canada West First Team All-Star.
