25th Anniversary, 1983 - 2008
The University of Manitoba PlayCare Centre is celebrating their 25th Anniversary this October. Marlynn, Lori, Marian, Tina and staff are hosting an "Anniversary Party" at our annual Family Night Open House with a cake cutting ceremony.
The PlayCare opened the door to care for children on October 11, 1983. The PlayCare was created in response to demand by members of the university community for occasional day care on campus. As of August 1986, the PlayCare centre has been licensed as a full-time Day Care Centre offering full-time, part-time and occasional care. The PlayCare Centre is a Department of Student Advocacy & Resource Services, Student affairs. Marlynn Childs has been the coordinator since September 1985. Lori Reuther has worked in the full-time Early Childhood Educator position since May 1987.
The PlayCare has provided quality child care/education since the inception, giving priority to students of the University of Manitoba. The PlayCare staff have made continual improvements to the environment, curriculum and programming.
