WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

Session 9

As educational technology professionals, how do we approach the ethical dimensions of our work?  In Copyright Issues Online, John Finch from Manitoba Education will discuss how new copyright legislation affects educators.  As intellectual property rights change with the rise of new technology, the education community has attained, but also lost, copyright access in the digital age.  Find out more in this presentation about how copyright laws affect your work practices.

Session 18

Do some learners plagiarize because they have not learned the difference between mimicry and reference sourcing?  In Supporting Academic Integrity Through e-Learning, Nancy Birch will present the development of an online educational tool to teach post-secondary students proper citation practices.  In cooperation with librarians, faculty and the Writing Centre at The University of Guelph-Humber partnership, this presentation will feature an exploration of effective project management, needs assessment and program implementation to support academic integrity practices.

Session 23

In this moderated Meet Colleagues Get Social panel, three presenters will engage in exchange of topics related to social media and mobile learning.  Sidneyeve Matrix will discuss the diffusion of open education resources and their impact on the future of education.  Building on this, Gary L. Schnellert will present a significant conundrum of open learning, the dilemma of plagiarism.  As learners have greater access than ever to reference materials, what can we as educators do to ensure the originality of our learners’ research and work?  As social media and mobile learner play a greater role in educational settings, what will be the future of Learning Management Systems? John Baker will discuss this topic with a view to content, delivery and technological functionalities.
