Hunter and Pischke are Smitty's Bison Sports Athletes of the Week

Bison Sports logoWomen's volleyball student-athlete, Kristi Hunter (Science) and men's volleyball student-athlete, Dane Pischke (Asper School of Business) have been named the Smitty's Bison Sports Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 30/11.

The No. 4 ranked Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball team swept the Brandon Bobcats to open the 2011-12 Canada West season. Fifth year left side Kristi Hunter was spectacular in both matches as she pounded 30 kills with 15 digs and four total blocks in just seven sets during the Oct. 28-29 home weekend series.

Hunter started the season with a game-high 19 kills with nine digs and two total blocks in a 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-22, 31-29) victory on Friday, October 29. On the next night, Hunter continued her strong play as she again notched a game-high 11 kills coupled with six digs and two total blocks in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) home win.

With the weekend series sweep, Manitoba starts the season at 2-0 while Hunter leads Canada West in kills per game at 4.29 (seven games/30 kills).


#4 Manitoba (2-0) travels to play at #9 Calgary (1-1) on November 4-5 weekend in conference action. First serve is at 7 p.m. CT on both nights.

The No. 3 ranked Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team swept the No. 8 ranked Brandon Bobcats to start the 2011-12 Canada West season. Fourth year right side Dane Pischke was a stats leader in both matches as he registered 36 kills on a sparkling .423 overall hitting percentage with 11 digs, six total blocks and two assists in eight sets during the Oct. 28-29 home weekend series.

Pischke began the season with a game-high 16 kills on .452 hitting percentage with four digs, two total blocks and one assist in a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16) win on Friday, October 29. On the next night, the Winnipeg native continued as he again notched a game-high 20 kills on .400 hitting percentage along with seven digs, four total blocks and an assists in a 3-1 (25-21, 25-11, 25-27, 25-19) home victory.

With the weekend series sweep, Manitoba starts the season at 2-0 while Pischke is second in Canada West hitting percentage at .423 and third in conference kills per game at 4.50 (eight games/36 kills).


#4 Manitoba (2-0) travels to play at #4 Calgary (1-1) on November 4-5 weekend in conference action. First serve is at 9 p.m. CT on both nights.
