Bisons Pischke and Voth selected as 2011-12 Canada West Men’s Volleyball First Team All-Stars

The 2011-12 Canada West men’s volleyball all-star teams and post-season honours were announced by the conference on Friday, February 24. The University of Manitoba Bisons had two players honoured for their efforts.

Bison men’s volleyball right side Dane Pischke and left side Chris Voth were both selected as 2011-12 Canada West First Team All-Stars.

Pischke, 21, earns his first conference honour in his fourth season at Manitoba.
The 6’6”, 185 lbs. right side hitter had a dominant season as he was second in Canada West in kills at 4.00 per game (73 games/292 kills), second in conference points at 4.62 per game (73 games/337.5 points), ninth in Canada West digs at 2.23 per game (73 games/163 digs) and 11th in conference hitting percentage with .295. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 conference regular season games and also accumulated 65 total blocks, 14 assists and six service aces.

Chris Voth, 21, earned his second consecutive conference all-star selection (2009-10 Canada West Second Team All-Star) in his fourth year at Manitoba career after also being named as 2008-09 CIS and Canada West Rookie of the Year. The 6’5”, 185 lbs. left side hitter had another great season as finished sixth in conference points at 4.19 per game (73 games/306.0 points), seventh in Canada West kills at 3.47 per game (73 games/253 kills), placed 11th in conference service aces with 0.25 per game (73 games/18 aces) and 20th in Canada West hitting percentage at .251. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 conference regular season games and also accumulated 108 digs, 61 total blocks and 20 assists.

Bison men’s volleyball head coach Garth Pischke said, “It has been a great season so far both Dane and Chris and glad they have been recognized at the conference level for their level of play this season.”

Bison volleyball notes: The Bisons play in the 2012 Canada West Final Four on February 24-25. Manitoba is the #2 seed and will play #3 seed Alberta Golden Bears (regular season: 15-5; playoffs: 2-0) in the first match at the Final Four on Friday, February 24 at 8 p.m. CT in Langley, B.C. The winner of the Manitoba/Alberta match will advance to the gold medal match while the loser will play in the bronze medal match and both scheduled on Saturday, February 25.
