|Bison Women's Hockey Team Announce Team Captains for 2008-09 Season|

As the Manitoba Bison women’s hockey team starts the 2008-09 Canada West season, they are pleased to announce the team captains for the upcoming season.
The team will have co-captains this season. Forward Leanne Kisil will wear the ‘C’ for the third consecutive season with the Bisons while forward Katherine O’Rourke becomes a captain for the first time with the Herd. Defenceman Amanda Schnell, forwards Sarah Stebeleski and Amy Coates wear the ‘A’ for the first time.
Bison women’s hockey coach Jon Rempel said, “These five players are a good mix of veterans and a younger player who have all proven their skills, support for teammates and leadership at the CIS level.”
Kisil, 22, is heading into her fifth year of eligibility. Kisil was a Canada West Second Team All-Star selection in 2007-08 and 2006-07 and named CIS Most Sportsmanlike Player at the 2007 CIS Championship. The Bison captain was the team’s fourth leading scorer with 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) in 24 regular season games in 2007-08. Kisil added six points (3g, 3a) in seven playoffs games in 2008. O’Rourke, 21, was an assistant captain last season and scored six goals (two on power play and two game-winners) and two assists in 24 conference games in 2007-08. The fifth year player also added four points (1g, 3a) in seven playoffs games in 2008.
Schnell, 25, plays her fifth year with Manitoba and had four goals and two assists in 24 conference regular season games in 2007-08 plus added an assist in the 2008 playoffs. Stebeleski, 22, finishes her five year career with the Bisons and was tied for sixth highest scorer on team with 13 points (five goals and eight assists) in 20 conference regular season games in 2007-08 plus added an assist in the 2008 playoffs. Coates, 20, is in her third with the Herd and registered six points (one goal and five assists) in 23 conference regular season games in 2007-08 plus three assists in 2008 playoffs.
Bison women’s hockey notes: Last season, the Herd opened the conference season at home versus at Lethbridge and swept the weekend series versus the Pronghorns by scores of 4-0 (Oct. 5/07) and 4-1 (Oct. 6/07). Manitoba went 4-0-0 against Lethbridge during the 2007-08 season with road wins of 5-1 (Feb. 1/08) and 4-0 (Feb. 2/08). In 2006-07, Manitoba was 4-0-0 against Lethbridge and the last conference loss by Manitoba to them was on Feb. 5/06 – eight consecutive wins.
