The Search link is located in the Tool Bar at the end of the list of tools that have been enabled for the current section by the section owner. Figure 1 shows the basic search form.

There are four different types of searches:
| 1. | All of these words |

Results will only be returned that contain all words entered in the search text. |
| 2. | Any of these words |
| |
Results will only be returned that contain at least one word from the search text. |
| 3. | Boolean |
| |
Results will be returned that match the Boolean expression in the search text. You can
use the "AND", "OR", and "NOT" predicates when performing your search. For example,
dog AND cat would return all results that contain the word "dog" and the word "cat" somewhere within the searchable text. The search dog OR cat would return all results that have either the word "dog" or the word "cat" or both. The search dog NOT cat would return results that have the word "dog" and that do not contain the word "cat" within the searchable text. In addition to basic Boolean searches, you can also combine different expressions to create more advanced searches. For example, dog AND cat NOT bird would return results that contained the words "dog" and "cat" but not the word "bird" within the searchable text. |

Results will only be returned that contain the exact text that is typed into the search field. |
All searches are case-insensitive. This means that a search for "dog" and a search for "DOG" will both return the same results.
There are commonly used words that the search utility will remove from your search query before performing a search. For example, the word "for" is an ignored word. If a search for "surprise party for Jon" is executed using the Any of these words criteria, the word "for" will be removed before the search is executed. Therefore, the search would return any results that match any of the words "surprise", "party", or "Jon".
Note: If the search uses the Exact Match criteria, ignored words will not be removed.

The second part of the search form contains a drop-down list that allows you to specify which areas of the application you would like to search. There are two different forms of this drop-down list. The first is the one you will see when you are within a section. There are three options:

This will search every section within the application, with one exception: if a section is private and you do not have access to it, the search will ignore results from that section. |
| 2. | Current Section |
| |
This will search only the section that the user is currently in. Remember, the section that you are currently in will show up in larger text in the Navigation Bar. |
| 3. | Current Section & Subsections |
| |
This will search the section that the user is currently in as well any subsections of the current section (and any subsections of subsections, etc.) as long as the subsections are not private and the current user does not have access to them. |
| 4. | My UMinfo |
| |
This option will only appear if you are in the My UMinfo view of nTreePoint. This option allows you
to search only sections and tools that you have subscribed to.
Note: If you are in your My UMinfo section, you will not see options 2 or 3. You must be searching from within a section to see those options. |
The final part of the search form allows you select which tools to search. By default, all tools are selected, but if you are only interested in searching News and Events, simply uncheck the other tools and your search results will be limited to data that has been added to the News and Events tools. Note that even though the section you are in might not have all tools enabled, the search will still allow you to search all tools. This is because even though you are in a specific section, you might want to search all sections or the current section and its subsections, and those sections might have other tools enabled.
Along with all searchable tools within the application, you will also see a Sections checkbox and a Pages checkbox included with the rest of the standard tools. The Sections checkbox allows you to search for a specific section within the application based on the name of the section. The Pages checkbox allows you to search the non-tool contents of summary pages (for example, the message, if any, that appears at the top of the Summary Page, or the contents of the section's Snippets), as well as the contents of any custom pages that have been added to a section.
